What is Champions For A Cause? Who is participating? When and where is it being held? Who can come?

The Miss Virginia USA and Miss Virginia Teen USA pageant under the direction of KPJ Productions, Inc is holding the third annual Champions for a Cause Online Silent Auction and LIVE Charity event on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 6:30 PM aboard the 1.2 million recently renovated cruise ship, The Spirit of Norfolk. This is our kickoff event for the 2018 Miss Virginia USA/Teen USA pageant, the official state pageant to the nationally televised Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.

  • The Online auction will open for bidding on Friday, October 6, 2017 and remain open through the completion of the cruise on October 20, 2017.  The public can find information and the link to the auction by visiting www.missvirginiausa.com and clicking on the Champions for a Cause auction link on the main page of the website.

  • Cruise tickets for the public, if they are still available, can be obtained through the web site as well.  Tickets are $75 per person and they include a full buffet, the silent auction, DJ dancing under the stars with all of the 2018 Miss Virginia USA and Miss Virginia Teen USA contestants, Madison Walker, Miss Virginia Teen USA 2017, Jacqueline Carroll, Miss Virginia USA 2017, local Coast Live WTKR-TV 3 co-host Cheryl Nelson and a very special VIP passenger, Miss Sophia Dominguez-Heithoff, the current Miss Teen USA.

  • As part of the annual event, each contestant chooses a nonprofit charity that she desires to impact through her participation, sponsorship, and outreach.  Contestants are encouraged to use personal appearances, volunteer participation, social media platforms, corporate sponsorships, civic engagements and a silent auction to fundraise for her cause.  All auction proceeds go directly to the designated charities of all contestants.

Why does the pageant hold this event and why should people get involved?

  • The direction of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA is changing.  WME/IMG, the owner of Miss Universe and the pageants, has a modern mission to celebrate women and women’s empowerment through the daily lives of women, their jobs, their families, their communities, their hopes and dreams, and their ambitions.  We want to do more to showcase these women beyond what the public views during a 3 hour pageant.

  • Champions For a Cause supports this mission and helps to develop self esteem, personal sacrifice, self awareness, time management, marketing skills and individuality for each contestant.  We are determined to attract and develop women into future goodwill ambassadors and inspiring icons with or without a crown.

  • The public should support the contestants and the event in order to strengthen these community organizations, learn about their contributions, and give thanks for the sponsors who have offered their items and services to raise money for so many important causes.  It’s so easy to find a cause you believe in and make a difference by simply bidding on an item you are interested in purchasing.  Many of the items are signature items from important regions throughout the Commonwealth and have a personal connection to the vibrant neighborhoods of our diverse contestants.

What are some of the charities chosen by the contestants in this year’s event? What are some of the auction items available for bidding?

  • The Virginia Beach SPCA, The Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads, and the REACH Read Aloud Program in Hampton Roads are a few local charities but there are many other organizations across the commonwealth and our nation represented like the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
  • A wide variety of incredible items are available from travel, wine tastings, personal

items, designer handbags, jewelry, original artwork, dining cards, autographed celebrity items, beauty products, sports tickets, concert tickets, personal services, one of a kind items and much more.

How can the public attend the pageant?  When is the pageant?

  • The preliminary pageant and final pageant are being held at the Roper Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22nd.  Tickets are available through the Roper at tccropercenter.org or through www.missvirigniausa.com and follow the links for pageant tickets.  Student discounts are available with your student ID.  Saturday’s show starts at 8 PM and Sunday’s show starts at 6 PM.
