A high school football player, Michael Ferns, in Ohio received the ball and was headed down the field for his twelfth touchdown in the season. As a starting running back for the St. Clairsville team, He has already been recruited to play at the University of Michigan next year on a full scholarship. In this particular play Ferns ran a total of 52 yards but STOPPED at the one-yard line and STEPPED OUT OF BOUNDS! The referees who had initially signaled for a touchdown were shocked. This soon turned to confusion as the player and his teammates argued and convinced the referees that he DID NOT SCORE! On the next play, a freshman teammate, Logan Thompson, whose father had passed 2 days prior to the game got the opportunity to carry the ball across the goal line for a touchdown. Thompson rarely got to play, and so the team decided to give him the chance to score a touchdown for his Dad.
