President Obama has claimed yet another term and will be inaugurated on January 20, 2013. The popular vote went 50 percent for Obama to 48.4 percent for Romney. Although Obama was re-elected for another four years, congress found itself divided. While Democrats retained control of the Senate; Republicans renewed their majority in the House of Representatives. Obama claimed a commanding electoral mandate with at least 303 electoral votes to Romney's 206. This means that his signature health-care overhaul will endure, as will the Wall Street reforms enacted after the economic meltdown. The draw down of troops in Afghanistan will continue as well. What I love about this story is that the president wants to meet with Romney and discuss how they can work together. He stated that although they battled fiercely, "it's only because we love this country deeply." Overall, Obama won 25 states and the District of Columbia, and Romney won 24 states. Here are Virginia's election winners at a glance: -President Obama won the vote in Virginia-- but just barely. -Tim Kaine won the race for U.S.. Senate, giving the state 2 Democratic senators. -Rob Wittman was re-elected to Congress in the 1st District. -Scott Rigell was re-elected to Congress in the 2nd District. -Bobby Scott was re-elected to Congress in the 3rd District making for his 11th term in office! -Randy Forbes was re-elected to Congress in the 4th District. -Will Sessoms was re-elected Mayor of Virginia Beach. -Kenny Wright was Re-elected as Mayor of Portsmouth. -Linda Johnson was re-elected as Mayor of Suffolk. Virginia Beach residents voted for City Council to take steps to bring a Light Rail to the city. Virginians also approved both proposed constitutional amendment questions.
