Americans with a valid passport are welcome to vacation in Canada for up to six months, however to permanently move there they would have to obtain a residency card.
To receive a residency card, which is equivalent to a U.S.. green card, one must prove that they are in good economic standing. The individual would have to do this by getting a good job there, starting a business there, investing money there, or getting a graduate degree at one of their colleges. After three years of living under these circumstances, one would be able to apply for citizenship. Other obstacles include Canada requiring you to be completely healthy because they DON'T want to pay for your healthcare, Your taxes with most likely be HIGHER, and your credit score will basically start as ZERO!
