I want you to take a good look at the man in the photograph above. By the end of this blog you are going to be convinced that he is either the SMARTEST or DUMBEST criminal on the planet! This is 49-year-old Anthony Johnson of Hartford, Connecticut. He has been credited with crawling around movie theater floors and stealing out of women's purses for THREE YEARS. As ridiculous as this sounds, Johnson was netting approximately $70,000 a week! This adds up to about $3.64 MILLION in a year. Okay so after three years we're looking roughly in the neighborhood of $10.92 MILLION!! How in the world did he get away with this??
Well from 2007-2010 Johnson ran a scam where he would go to movie theaters with a female accomplice who would scan the room spotting which women placed their purses under their seats. Johnson would then crawl around stealing credit cards out of the purses. He would max the cards out on shopping sprees or receive huge cash advances at casinos.
Had it not been for a detective in Greenwich, Connecticut who noticed the suspicious pattern and started tying together credit card thefts all over the Northeast, Johnson may have continued his scam for another 3 years. The detective turned his findings over to the FBI who busted Johnson in August of 2010. Johnson was convicted this week for fraud and identity theft. He's looking at up to 74 YEARS in prison. His two female accomplices are facing 12 years each... So take a look at the man in the picture once more, and then tell us what you think BELOW!
