Some Facebook users Friday morning were rudely surprised to find that their electronic connection to the world was broken.
Some who tried to log on were faced with a message from Facebook that said, “Sorry, something went wrong.”
That’s it. No further explanation. Just “something went wrong.” And some people went a little gaga. When one social media outlet isn’t there, you need to go to another to complain about it. Which is making #facebookdown the top trending item in the Twitterverse right now.
Still no word from Facebook on what happened, or how many people were affected, or how long the disruption lasted. It does seem that things are back to normal, so everyone can get back to the business of sharing Grumpy Cat memes and commenting on the latest escapades of The Real Housewives of Wherever.
If your tastes run a little more vanilla than what "Fifty Shades of Grey" has to offer, there IS an option for you next Valentine's Day. It's called "Old Fashioned" . . . a CHRISTIAN-funded relationship movie from the people who brought you "God's Not Dead" and"Heaven Is for Real". It's tagline is "Chivalry Makes a Comeback". Director and star RIK SWARTZWELDER says, quote, "I wanted to tell a love story that takes the idea of Godly romance seriously." And how is it different from "Fifty Shades"? Rik says, quote, "One is a modestly budgeted indie flick that seeks to make room for godly romance in contemporary America. "The other is a multi-million dollar studio film based on a best-selling erotic novel that has . . . other goals in mind."
BEYONCÉ'S father and former manager Matthew Knowles is teaching a course . . . on how to become the next Beyoncé. And amazingly, you'll learn everything you need to know in ONE DAY. Sort of. The course is called "The Entertainment Industry: How Do I Get In?" . . . and it's being offered at Houston Community College Central on September 13th. It's described as, quote, "a day-long, intensive boot camp." It promises a, quote, "insider's view of the entertainment industry from someone who knows it from top to bottom" . . . and the ability to "tap Matthew Knowles' vast entertainment and music business expertise and leave with real information, contacts and strategies for [your] own successful entertainment endeavors." The class will run you $295 if you pre-order it, or $350 at the door. Of course, before you get your hopes up, Matthew did try to re-create his DESTINY'S CHILD success on a 2011 reality show called"Breaking from Above", but it didn't work out for him.
Lorde is writing a new song for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack. "Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," Lorde said in a statement. "The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people." She added, "Building this thing piece by piece has been amazing. I can't wait to share the other artists' contributions with you." Lorde previously covered Tears for Fears' classic "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" for the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack in 2013. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is slated for release on November 21st.
Chris Brown played the Rihanna card one too many times with Karrueche Tran ... we've learned Karrueche has not only broken up with him ... for safe measure she changed her number. Our sources say Karrueche exploded when Chris recently "liked" 2 fan photos on Instagram of Rihanna and him together. But Rihanna was only a small part of Karrueche's problems with Chris. We're told she was unhappy for a long time ... as sources put it, because "Chris acts immature, like a child." She thinks he's ruining his life by spending more time partying than making music. Chris' reaction to the break up has been breathtaking. He went to St. Tropez this week and took a very good friend of Karrueche's along for the ride. And he made a point to be photographed with her ... making sure Karrueche would see it. Karrueche's reaction was not jealousy. We're told she's changed her phone number ... specifically so Chris couldn't contact her.
It would be interesting to sit in on one of the idea sessions for Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, just to see how the concept of Face Balls ges birthed.
Here's the deal: Jimmy's guest throws a giant air-filled ball at Jimmy's face. The event is captured on slow-mo camera for instant replay. Then Jimmy throws a giant air-filled ball at his guest's face. And they repeat the process with bigger balls.
Actually pretty funny, and who better to kick off your Face Ball segment than Julia Roberts.
She shows off her remarkable sense of humor - check out her comments as she catches a couple of balls in the face.
On Wednesday, singer David Cassidy – the pop singer from the 70s who starred in The Partridge Family – had a court hearing scheduled to answer to a charge of driving while intoxicated in the town of Schodack, NY last summer.
Because he lives in Florida, the court agreed to allow Cassidy’s lawyer to appear in court to accept a plea deal on his behalf.
Everything was set until someone pointed out to the court a tweet by the New York Racing Association on that very same day, saying that David was at Saratoga Race Course – about 40 miles from the courtroom – playing bocce with a few other guys.
A new court date has been scheduled. And you can bet that David won’t be playing bocce that day.
David Cassidy, Dominick Schettino, Anthony Bonomo, and @garycontessa playing bocce by the #Saratoga Pavilion. Gary Sciacca on his way.
The original Night at the Museum was something of a hit – with Ben Stiller as the night security guard at a museum where things came to life after closing time.
Night at the Museum 2? Well, I must admit, I missed that one. Didn’t even know it had been made.
And yet, the franchise has already pulled in $1 billion worldwide.
So here we are, just months away from the release of the third installment – Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb – and the first official trailer has dropped, showing the reunion of Ben and Robin Williams, among others.
Check it out. I’ve got to admit, it got a couple of genuine chuckles out of this tough audience.
